The National Safeguarding Team has today announced it has sought permission to bring a further ‘out of time’ complaint under the Clergy Discipline Measure – against the Revd Iain Broomfield – due to criticism of his actions in the Makin review.

It was announced in February that the National Safeguarding Team would seek to bring disciplinary proceedings under the Clergy Discipline Measure against 10 clergy. In all cases, the complaints were ‘out of time’ and permission was sought from the President of the Tribunals, he granted it in seven of the 10 cases. This new application, the 11th, follows the completion of other live processes that were ongoing at the time of the review Panel earlier in the year which had meant that the actions of this priest, criticised in the report, could not be reviewed at that point. There will be no further comment until a decision is made by the President.
