The Church in Wales Parochial Fees from 1 January 2023 are now available on the church’s website, the Marriage Fees 2023 and the Funeral and Burial Fees 2023. The latter have been set by the Representative Body since 2015, and the funeral and burial fees by the Representative Body (with some burial fees agreed in consultation with the Welsh Government as required by legislation). Extracts of these fees are reproduced below.
In addition, the Church has published its Churchyard Regulations 2023, which are applicable throughout the Church in Wales, unlike the diocese-specific Regulations within the Church of England – a possible unintended consequence of the “Welsh Church Acts“.
The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022 was granted Royal Assent on 28 April 2022, and in August the Ministry of Justice announced that it would be brought into effect on Monday 27 February 2023. From 26 February 2023, 16- and 17-year-olds will no longer be able to marry or enter a civil partnership in England and Wales under any circumstances, including with parental or judicial consent. At the time of writing‡, the commencement date had not been confirmed by Statutory Instrument.
