Italy’s judge at the European Court of Human Rights, Guido Raimondi, was today elected President of the Court and will take office on 1st November 2015. He succeeds Dean Spielmann, of Luxembourg, whose mandate will come to an end on 31 October 2015.
Judge Raimondi was born in 1953 in Naples and obtained a Master’s degree in law from the University of Naples in 1975. He was a judge from 1977 to 1986. He was an ad hoc judge of the European Court of Human Rights from 2001 to 2003 and a judge of the Court of Cassation from 2002 to 2003. He has been a full member of the ECtHR since 5 May 2010 and a Vice-President of the Court and President of Section since 1 November 2012.
